Create Your Own Shisa from Ishigaki Clay

Meet Island Artists Who Shape Life Through Craft

Across the Yaeyama Islands, artisans pursue their own forms of expression rooted in local life. Visit the studio of a ceramic artist working with Ishigaki clay, and take part in a quiet retreat of hands-on creation and connection to place.

Detail

Hand-form your own shisa using rare mountain clay sourced from Ishigaki. Each piece is fired in the island’s only traditional climbing kiln, creating a truly one-of-a-kind work. On the day of your visit, you’ll choose the expression and finish of your shisa at the studio. The clay used is 100% natural, collected locally from Ishigaki Island.
